Leipzig University demonstrated above-average results in the International Student Barometer

Leipzig University has achieved above-average results in almost all fields of the recently published International Student Barometer (ISB), the world's largest survey for the international student experience. As many as 159,959 students from 196 institutions in 17 countries were surveyed via online questionnaires last year in the study carried out by the British market research company i-graduate, which aims to understand the experience of exchange students. The sample included 552 responses concerning Leipzig University. Among all questions, students were asked about their experience in learning, living, support, application process and the choice of institution.

According to the study, 87 percent of exchange students would recommend others to apply at Leipzig University. This result is above the national and international average. 86 percent of respondents said they had positive experiences at Alma mater. Among key factors of the decision where to study were above all the living costs, the quality of the research, the study costs as well the reputation of the University. The University also scored above-average results in terms of welcoming culture: 86 percent of respondents were generally satisfied with it. Above all were appreciated the introductory days, social activities and the housing opportunities.

Alma mater also gained points on quality of teaching: 82 percent of foreign students were satisfied with it. The University infrastructure such as study rooms and libraries were evaluated almost entirely positive. More than 70 percent felt challenges in the study courses. Other key points for choosing Leipzig University as a place to study were the cost of living, the quality and price of the student accommodation, the good connections of the university with public transport, the surroundings of the campus and its buildings, the host culture and the possibility to meet friends here.

"I am delighted that Leipzig University has demonstrated great results in the International Student Barometer. It shows that we have a reputation of a cosmopolitan university, where young people from abroad like to study or do their doctorate program. At the same time, it is a sign for us to continue our internationalization process", says Rector of the University Prof. Dr. med. Beate Schücking.

The International Student Barometer (ISB) has been conducted since 2005. Since then, 1400 universities around the world have joined the study. The study results provide the universities with insight into the expectations and experience of international students. Using this data, universities can identify their strengths and weaknesses in terms of service and communication with the target group.
