Millennium Express 2018

On July 2nd to 4th 2018, International SEPT program (Small Enterprise Promotion and Training), in cooperation with The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) conducted the workshop conference with the theme "Promotion of Affordable & Clean Energy through Social Entrepreneurship initiatives for Sustainable Development." The topic refers to the Agenda for Sustainable Development, was however narrowed down specifically to the Goal#7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. This event is part of the Millennium Express activities, and it took place in Leipzig University.

Millennium Express DAAD Seminars started as multi-disciplinary workshops organized throughout Germany by DAAD Scholarship Holders. These workshops were intended to gather young professionals and to share and exchange ideas and opportunities for further professional development. In this year, the event gathered 19 young professionals and experts towards the present state, challenges and opportunities of Social Entrepreneurship initiatives aimed at improving living conditions in developing countries, through the access to clean energy. This three-day event gave participants the opportunity to discuss and come up with different business ideas and contributions, and analysis of practical cases of Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development.

On the first day, participants got the lecture about Multi-Tier Framework for Electricity Access and Social Entrepreneurship. Not only that, they also visited Social Impact Lab Leipzig to get the information about their social startup scholarships program. Then on the second day, participants attended the lecture on tools of business idea development. They were divided into 5 teams clustered based on field of study to develop their own social business model. Finally, on the third day, each of group presented the business model to the experts from SEPT/Leipzig University for the feedback and recommendations. Moreover on this day, there was also organization 'RecycleUp Ghana' sharing the experience about their social business to the participants. The event was closed with the Leipzig city tour.
